AARP
AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association dedicated to shaping and enriching the experience of aging, for adults age 50 or older, whether working or retired. Founded in 1958 and based in Washington, DC, it is the largest organization of midlife and older persons in the U.S. AARP programs and services are designed to inform and educate people about consumer, economic, security, work, health, and other important issues related to aging. As a leading advocate for midlife and older Americans, AARP engages in legislative and consumer advocacy in many forums and on many subjects.
The AgeLine database, produced by AARP's Research Information Center, contains over 90,000 abstracts and detailed summaries of publications about older adults and aging, including books, journal and magazine articles, and research reports. Coverage of health, research and consumer information comes from the gerontology collection of Research Centers, as well as selected articles from over 600 journals and magazines. All references include original abstracts, which are copyrighted by AARP, and subject keywords assigned using the Thesaurus of Aging Terminology, published by AARP. AgeLine is updated regularly and includes material from 1978 on, with selected coverage of the years 1966-1977. The database covers English-language literature from many countries.

Internet Resources on Aging covers Internet resources for people age 50 or older. Web sites are chosen for their usefulness for older adults and their families, as well as for researchers, students, and professionals in the field of aging. Most of the sites are produced by government agencies or nonprofit organizations. Commercial sites are not included unless they contain a substantial amount of free information that is interesting to a wide spectrum of older adults. Exceptions are made for sites offering products that are particularly helpful to older adults and may be difficult to find (such as assistive devices). This database can be searched in directly or by using STAR Web's Fastlink feature to search key subjects automatically by clicking on hypertext links.
